WESTMINSTER SCHOOL – SIMSBURY, CT
Delivered full M/E/P/FP design services for the new 80,000 SF Science Center, which features a 100% geothermal HVAC system with no boiler, providing exceptional energy efficiency. Each room includes occupancy sensors to control heating, lighting, and ventilation, contributing to the project’s LEED Gold certification. Designed with a long-term goal of achieving net-zero performance, the building is oriented along an east–west axis to maximize daylighting and reduce energy demand. Its geothermal heat-exchange system, high-efficiency mechanical equipment, enhanced insulation, and efficient lighting design all work together to significantly lower energy consumption. The geothermal infrastructure is planned for future integration with solar power, positioning the building to ultimately operate as a fully net-zero facility.
